The intricate, colorful bands of geometric marquetry running vertically down the sides are a hallmark of Tunbridge Ware, produced in Tunbridge Wells and Tonbridge, England, during the 18th and 19th centuries. The use of a figured veneer like burl walnut, framed by the inlay, is typical of mid-19th century Tunbridge boxes.
This piece also works beautifully styled as a side table accent, adding warmth and pattern to your space.

Condition Note: Surface wear, scratches, and light veneer losses present, consistent with age and use. Brass elements have developed natural patina. The top brass plaque is detached but can be easily reattached, or replaced with your own custom monogrammed plaque. Expansion and contraction split on inside bottom. Hinges and joints remain sturdy.
