Antique Coxon & Co. The Gem Lilac Purple Transferware Warming Plate

An unusual 19th-century hot-water warming plate in Coxon & Co.’s The Gem pattern. The softly scalloped plate features pale lilac purple floral transferware surrounding a central fountain and floral arrangement. An opening near the rim allowed the hollow base to be filled with hot water, helping food remain warm during service. The underside bears The Gem and Coxon & Co. stamp.
