Hand sourced in France. A softly rendered woodland path by French artist Adolphe Deteix (1892–1967), painted in warm ochre, brown, sage, and cream. The collection label on the reverse identifies the work as Chemin à Trouville, or “Path at Trouville.” A prominent tree trunk anchors the composition, with pale light filtering through the surrounding foliage. The gold-toned frame features dark recessed ornament and a beaded inner border. The reverse retains a Collection Gleize-Danis label documenting the work.
Trouville, usually called Trouville-sur-Mer, is a seaside town on the Normandy coast in northern France, facing the English Channel. It began as a fishing village and became a fashionable seaside resort during the 19th century, known for its sandy beach, fishing port, and coastal villas.
It has a strong connection to painting. Artists including Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet, and Charles Mozin were drawn to its changing light, skies, and seaside scenery. “Chemin à Trouville,” means “Path at Trouville,” placing the scene within this Normandy landscape.
Adolphe Deteix (1892–1967) was a French artist born in Amplepuis, near Lyon. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français and the Salon des Indépendants in Paris. Beyond painting, he created frescoes and mosaics for the church in Barcelonnette. These details are documented by the Tomaselli Collection, citing the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon and the Bénézit artist dictionary.
