Pair of Marble Cassolettes with Bronze Handles

Pair of Marble Cassolettes with Bronze Handles

SOLD ARCHIVE

This matched pair of marble cassolettes reflects the neoclassical taste popular in Europe during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Inspired by classical urn forms, cassolettes were originally associated with incense or perfumed materials but became primarily decorative objects during the Grand Tour era. Crafted from richly veined marble and accented with bronze handles and feet, pieces like these were often displayed on mantels, pedestals, or within interior garnitures as symbols of refinement and classical education.

Measurements
Each cassolette measures approximately 12 inches tall with a base diameter of approximately 4 inches.

Materials
Carved and turned marble in soft pink, green, and cream tones with gilt bronze handles and feet

Condition Note
Both cassolettes are in good antique condition with visible historic repairs to the marble bases, please see photos. Light surface wear is present throughout, consistent with age and handling. The bronze elements show gentle patina appropriate to age.
